The Witch's Bakery Beginner Guide: Baking, Puzzles & Romance
Learn the daily routine, bakery service, recipe progression, Heart Palace basics, Estelle romance and Steam achievement goals in The Witch's Bakery.
How do you get started in The Witch’s Bakery?
Follow the opening tutorial before trying to optimise your bakery. Learn the prompts for movement, conversation, serving and baking as each activity appears, then check what the current story asks you to do next. Treat your opening sessions as practice: identify the action the game expects before spending time on optional purchases or completion goals.

| Opening priority | What to do | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Review the controls | Practise movement, conversation and workstation interaction during the tutorial | Adjust uncomfortable bindings in the control settings |
| Finish the first service lesson | Match the requested bread with the item you prepare and serve | Teaches the basic order-to-delivery loop |
| Follow the current story objective | Finish the conversation and inspect the indicated interaction before leaving | Helps distinguish a missed step from a progression issue |
| Start a simple progress log | Record recipes, character events and newly available activities | Keeps collection goals manageable as systems open up |
The publisher’s current FAQ estimates roughly 25–30 hours or more for a playthrough, depending on reading speed and playstyle. Treat that as a broad estimate, not a guaranteed time for every achievement.
Remappable controls are documented in LadiesGamers’ PC review. Use the prompts shown by your current bindings when a minigame begins.

What should you do during the day, evening and night?
Use daytime for bakery work, evening for exploring Paris and meeting people, and night for rest, magic development or time in the atelier. Plan around the activity currently available rather than assuming every system can be used at any hour. Before advancing the day, read any dialogue or objective that explains what becomes available next.
The phase order is confirmed by the official game description.
| Phase | Confirmed focus | Practical checklist |
|---|---|---|
| Daytime | Run the bakery and help customers | Check orders, dough supply and the prompts relevant to the current lesson |
| Evening | Explore districts, meet characters and investigate their stories | Follow a quest lead, look for recipe books or pursue a relationship event |
| Night | Rest, develop magic, decorate or spend time in the atelier | Practise an available recipe or review the other options before resting |
Before choosing an outing, check the destination and available conversations. The developers confirm a calendar structure, character activities and books that improve your stats. Choose the activity or book that supports your current goal, then record what you completed. Source: Sunny Lab’s explanation of the daily loop.
How do you serve customers, bake and unlock recipes?
Separate daytime service from nighttime recipe practice. During service, read the order, keep the required dough available and follow the workstation prompts. In the atelier, follow the recipe’s own steps and measurements. Recipe books found while exploring are one confirmed source of new recipes, so record where each unlock comes from.
The official game description confirms the atelier and recipe-book discovery. LadiesGamers’ PC review describes the service loop: Lunne prepares dough and serves customers while Orio handles baking. It also reports an option to prioritise a particular treat when demand is higher.
| Situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| A customer is waiting | Compare the order indicator with the bread you are about to serve |
| Orio is helping with production | Monitor the dough counters as well as the finished bread available to collect |
| A particular treat is in demand | Prioritise that treat and keep its dough supply available |
| Production has stopped | Check the dough counters and follow any active workstation instructions |
| You are practising a recipe | Read its current preparation step and recipe card before changing ingredients |
| You want more recipes | Inspect the books offered during exploration and note which purchase unlocks which recipe |
Le Quai des Bouquinistes is a bookseller district highlighted in the official description. Inspect available book descriptions during exploration: recipe discovery and stat improvement are both reasons to browse. Keep the book’s name and the benefit it advertises in your notes before buying.
Use the Paris map guide to read destination information before travelling. The recipe guide includes the illustrated baguette card and its preparation sequence.
How should you track recipe progress?
Keep discovery, first preparation and development in separate columns. Steam assigns different achievements to these goals, so unlocking a recipe is not the same as cooking it or bringing it to its maximum level.
| Recipe goal | Steam achievement | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Discover the full recipe collection | Gastronomicon | Recipe name and unlock source |
| Prepare every recipe at least once | Cooking Adventure | Whether you have actually cooked it |
| Develop every recipe to its maximum level | Meilleure Ouvrière de France | Current level and any upgrade condition shown |
Source: official Steam achievement requirements. These goals work well as separate columns in a recipe checklist.
How do you keep the opening story moving?
Finish the current tutorial or character interaction, then check the story objective before deciding where to go next. Use the daily phases to organise your next step: service while the bakery is open, exploration after work, and home activities before resting. Pay attention when new conversations, destinations or character scenes become available.
| Current situation | Useful next step |
|---|---|
| The bakery tutorial is active | Finish the requested workstation action or customer interaction |
| The workday has ended | Explore available locations and follow the current character objective |
| A destination is not available yet | Continue the story and watch for newly opened areas |
| A character scene is in progress | Finish the dialogue and read the objective before changing activities |
| You are ready to end the day | Review the home options, then rest to continue the daily cycle |
The daily phases are described by the official store page; the PC review also reports that new areas open through story progress. Steam’s chapter achievements include Of Mages and Regrets for completing Chapter 1 and The Little Girl with the Chocolate Cake for completing Chapter 2, giving you clear early milestones to track.
What should I check before treating a stalled quest as a bug?
Read the exact objective, finish any remaining dialogue and inspect the interaction the scene is pointing toward. Note the current location and time-of-day phase. If you previously played the demo, check the official branch-and-save notice above. For an unresolved full-release issue, record your platform, version, objective text and a screenshot for the developer’s support discussion.
How do you enter a Heart Palace and work through its obstacles?
A Heart Palace is a story-linked space inside a character’s troubled heart. Follow the character interaction that introduces the dive, then identify what the room asks you to guide or move. The officially described goal is to return a personified emotion to the Heart’s Cradle and discover a key ingredient connected to that person’s healing.
That goal is documented in the official game description. Follow the relevant character interaction when a dive is offered, then keep the emotion’s destination in mind as you inspect the scene.
| What is blocking you? | What to inspect first |
|---|---|
| You have lost track of the goal | Locate the personified emotion and its destination |
| You cannot see a route onward | Inspect exits and interactable objects before testing an action |
| The scene introduces an obstacle | Observe what changes after one interaction, then reassess the route |
| The dialogue gives a new objective | Follow the instruction and check the character’s story context |
How can you work through an unfamiliar puzzle room?
Use a simple observation loop:
- Identify the goal shown by the room and current dialogue.
- Inspect the objects and routes available to you.
- Try one interaction and observe its effect.
- Recheck the route before changing another object.
- Read any new dialogue before leaving the scene.
Keeping a screenshot of the initial layout can help you compare changes without relying on memory.
The developer describes Heart Palaces as puzzle spaces within a story-led adventure. Treat the room’s instructions and the character’s situation as your immediate guide. Source: Sunny Lab’s gameplay Q&A.

How do relationships develop, and can you romance Estelle?
Spend time with characters through the conversations and activities the story makes available, and pay attention to what they tell you. Estelle is the sole romance option, first introduced in Chapter 2, and narrative choices shape the relationship. Follow her available scenes and record significant choices alongside the relationship milestones you reach.
The publisher’s official FAQ confirms the romance and chapter. Sunny Lab also identifies Le Marais as Estelle’s district in its developer Q&A. Use the story objective to guide your visit when that area becomes available.
The Estelle romance guide covers the early appointment sequence, story choices and relationship achievement checkpoints in more detail.
Which relationship levels have achievement targets?
| Character | Levels explicitly named in Steam achievements |
|---|---|
| Estelle | 1, 2, 3, 4 |
| Orio | 2, 3, 4 |
| Ghaldari | 1, 2 |
| Mawuli | 1, 2, 3 |
| Mirembe | 1, 2, 3 |
| Hassan | 1, 2 |
| Kei | 1, 2 |
| Judith Tessier | 1, 2 |
| Monsieur Martin | 1, 2 |
Source: official Steam relationship achievements. Use these as tracking milestones; log the event, location and choices that accompanied each level.
Which beginner mistakes are worth avoiding?
Avoid acting on assumptions the current scene has not confirmed. Read an order before serving, read a recipe before changing ingredients and read the objective before repeating a puzzle. Keep notes when a choice or a new system appears. If a problem persists, collect enough context to distinguish a missed instruction from a reproducible issue.
| Mistake | Better habit |
|---|---|
| Continuing a demo save into the release | Follow the developer’s release-branch and new-game instructions for former demo players |
| Treating every stalled scene as a puzzle | Check dialogue and the active story objective before moving more objects |
| Guessing recipe quantities from real baking | Follow the game’s recipe card and its current preparation step |
| Ignoring service indicators | Check the dough supply and current workstation prompts when production stops |
| Counting an unlocked recipe as finished | Track discovery, first preparation and recipe level separately |
| Assuming old keyboard prompts apply everywhere | Follow your platform’s current on-screen instructions |
| Rushing a relationship conversation | Record significant choices and the event that follows |
| Counting Pain au chocolat and Chocolatine as two proven recipes | Steam confirms two dialogue-choice achievements; that alone does not establish two separate recipe unlocks |
| Treating an achievement threshold as a system limit | Relationship milestones do not establish level caps; activity targets do not establish the total activities available |
Consult recent guide updates when looking for revisions. The developer’s demo-save notice is particularly relevant to release-week progression problems.
Which achievements, recipes and collectibles should you track early?
Track story progress, relationships, recipe discovery, cooking, activities and decorations as separate goals. Steam lists 60 achievements, with concrete targets that can guide your notes from the start. Record the name of each activity, completed recipe and purchased decoration so you can compare your own progress with the listed requirements.
The targets below are checked against the official Steam achievement list, reviewed on October 16, 2026. Conditions are paraphrased.
The three recipe-completion goals in the baking section account for 5% of Steam’s achievement list. Keep a separate personal checklist for recipe discovery, cooking and development.
Which activities should you record?
| Target | Steam achievement | Requirement, paraphrased |
|---|---|---|
| Movies | Movie Enthusiast | Watch 8 movies |
| Theatre | Molière Hall | Attend 8 plays |
| Concerts | Music is Life | Attend 8 concerts |
| Restaurants | Fine Dining | Try every restaurant |
| Activities overall | Paris, I love you | Earn all activity achievements |
| Side quests | The Heart of Paris. | Finish all side quests |
| Books | Bookworm | Read every book |
Record activity names and completed visits rather than relying on memory. Use the listed numbers as achievement targets and check the game’s available activities when planning your next outing.
Which decoration sets have Steam achievement targets?
Each achievement below requires purchasing the complete named bakery set.
| Bakery set | Achievement |
|---|---|
| Spooky | Trick or Croissant |
| Urban | Childhood Memories |
| Art Nouveau | Ghaldari’s Pupil |
| Fantasy | Doughs & Dragons |
| Aside | Croissant from the Aside |
| Stellar | To the Moon |
| Versailles | So French |
| Candy | Bubble gums! |
| RetroFuture | Space Witch! |
| Grunge | Street Style |
These are 10 set-specific achievement targets. Gotta get’em all separately asks you to unlock every bakery decoration piece. Keep a piece-by-piece purchase checklist alongside your set checklist.
Which smaller exploration and dialogue goals are confirmed?
| Goal | Confirmed achievement target | What to note during play |
|---|---|---|
| Backer’s Monument | Visit the monument | Mark the visit in your exploration checklist |
| Sadness | Pet Sadness 5 times | Log each interaction |
| Income | Earn €100, €1,000 and €7,500 | Tick off each registered milestone |
| Emotional powers | Unlock all emotional powers | Record the abilities you gain |
| Dialogue | Select Pain au chocolat; select Chocolatine | Note each named dialogue choice when encountered |
Requirements in both checklists come from the official Steam achievements.
